Beginning Beekeeping 1: Beginning with Intention

Sunday, February 19, 2012
9 am - 4 pm
Led by  Alan Hawkins

In the Wheelwright Center

May our intention equally penetrate every being and place...

We will begin by examining our intention to keep honeybees and how to transform our intentions into beekeeping behavior that benefits honeybees. We will examine natural beekeeping methods and attitudes that are used to keep the bees healthy at Green Gulch. We will tour the bee yards, garden, and farm. Short video clips will be used to explain the life cycle of the honeybee colony, bee behavior, pollination, and honey production. Participants will become acquainted with necessary beekeeping equipment and how to acquire bees. The Kenya Top Bar and the Langstroth hive will be highlighted. Participants will have the opportunity to order equipment and bees from the instructor at the end of the workshop. We will conclude the workshop with a pollen and honey tasting.

Wear light colored clothing and be prepared for cool weather. A vegetarian lunch is included in the cost of registration.
