Chef Clive Barnes is all about love, which he claims is his ‘secret ingredient’ and his big hearted talent has won him a place in the prestigious national competition ABC’s “Nightline People’s Platelist”.
“I’m honored and excited to share my traditional Jamaican cooking with the world,” Chef Clive Barnes said last week while filming his 3-minute video to be voted on by America online. “I was on my way to the World Trade Center on that fateful 911 day but was delayed, delayed for a greater purpose and now I am blessed to share my talent with the whole wide world, and make the people smile when they enjoy my special Jamaican Cuisine, made fresh and clean daily”.
Sarah Rosenberg, an ABC News producer, contacted Chef Clive at his restaurant and told him he was one of 20 finalists after Donna Orviss, a long time VIP customer of Sweetfingers Restaurant submitted Chef Clive to the ABC People’s Platelist contest.

“I first learned the basics of Jamaican cooking from my grandmother,” said Chef Clive, who just celebrated the 3 year anniversary of the San Leandro based Sweetfingers Restaurant with his partner and wife, Roxanne Mosley. “This is just awesome.” said Roxanne when she found out about the nomination. “Clive and I are so proud that this opportunity to shine for the world comes at this time.”

Sweetfingers Restaurant has become a community center where many people come to enjoy the food, the outdoor patio, the live Caribbean style music, reggae artist press parties, and private birthday parties. The popular eatery is a hang out for the diverse community and visiting Jamaican music and movie stars. “I am always thinking about the delicious meals and the relaxed family atmosphere I enjoy at Sweetfingers, and it is just minutes from the Oakland Airport, so when I come back from touring, I always come to Sweetfingers first for some ‘one love’ cooking” said John Ras Kidus Cornelius, star of the popular Jamaican film series ‘Rude Boy” and a resident of near by Oakland, CA.

“Chef Clive is definitely a shining light there in California,” Rosenberg said. “It was hard to choose just 20, but the 20 finalists had a spark the others didn’t. There was something special about them.”
