Coffee Bar

Coffee Bar opened in late 2007 as the brainchild of Jason Paul and Luigi DiRuocco, two Alameda natives and childhood friends who reconnected while living in San Francisco in 2006. Jason, being involved in live entertainment production, was spending his days working out of cafes around the city; Luigi, on the other hand, was active with Mr. Espresso, his father’s coffee-roasting business based out of Oakland. They both shared a vision for opening a shop that combined their passion for coffee with a useful, community-oriented space.

Our mission for Coffee Bar exists today as it did three years ago: to provide our customers with an exceptional cafe experience. We do that in a few different ways, but we believe the best experience begins with the coffee itself, and that means working with an extraordinary roaster. At Coffee Bar, all of our beans are sourced directly from Mr. Espresso, a Bay Area roasting institution since the 1970s. Their attention to responsibly-sourced and prepared beans adds an irreplaceable dynamic to the experience we strive to create. But we also know that outstanding coffee alone doesn’t make a great cafe. We believe in the idea of the cafe as a social institution, a positive landmark in the community where work gets done, people connect, and ideas are shared. Our open, modern space is the ideal backdrop to any part of your day and we hope you feel the same.

Finally, we are proud to offer thoughtful, healthy breakfast and lunch items from local vendors. We also partner with some of the city’s best pastry chefs to offer unique, one-of-a-kind indulgences.
