Park Tavern

Park Tavern is proud to be located on Washington Square Park in North Beach — a neighborhood steeped in rich history.

One of the city’s three original parks, Washington Square (established around 1850) served as a safe gathering area for locals seeking relief following the 1906 earthquake that nearly leveled San Francisco. The perimeter of the Park is home to important venues like the church of Saints Peter and Paul, a pillar in the city’s Italian-American community, and the site of Joe DiMaggio’s funeral in 1999. The official Historic Landmark space now serves as a public gathering area in a densely populated urban community, and plays host to early morning Tai Chi groups, as well as rest, relaxation, and recreation.

Park Tavern’s 1652 Stockton address has served as home to a wood and coal yard, a furniture store, and later, a maple shop. In 1992, “The Lord of North Beach” — the beloved, late Ed Moose — opened the popular restaurant Moose’s, to which Park Tavern pays tribute through a dedicated bar stool and commemorative portrait. Presiding over Washington Square Bar & Grill and Moose’s restaurants for 32 years, Mr. Ed Moose established his restaurants as “the” places to see and be “scene.”
