Theater of the Oppressed Workshop

Richmond District, San Francisco, CA, 94168

THEATER of the OPPRESSED: a six-day training

THEATER OF THE OPPRESSED is a popular education technique using theater as a tool for transformation. It reflects the life work of the late Brazilian director, scholar and activist AUGUSTO BOAL, and is rooted in Paulo Freire’s pedagogy of education. Theater of the Oppressed utilizes theater techniques to see and analyze the world around us and invites citizens into action. This TRAINING, will include fun and interactive games and exercises and incorporate Image and Newspaper Theater, and will focus on the advanced RAINBOW OF DESIRE techniques, which draw upon the participant’s personal experiences and address internalized oppressions. The techniques learned in this workshop will be immediately applicable to educators, activists, therapists, community organizers and theater artists and can be applied to a wide variety of populations. NO PREVIOUS THEATER EXPERIENCE NECESSARY.
