Known for his fine lines, and bright colors, Craig Thompson is an explosive young artist breaking out into the Bay Area’s contemporary art scene.
The purpose of Craig’s art is to capture what consumes people. Craig developed his unique style while studying Art and Marketing at Saint Mary’s College of California, and has since been painting what he calls Consumed Art. Although Consumed Art originally focused on culinary interests including cooking and drinking, Craig has recently experimented with a variety of other human passions such as travel, nature, and popular art.
It comes as no surprise to his family that Craig is a talented painter. Craig grew up in a family well established in the art world, and was encouraged to explore his creative impulses at a young age. His great grandfather, grandmother, and mother are active artists and have each had a profound influence on the development of Craig’s artistic abilities
Craig’s great grandfather, Maurice Lafayette, was the first member of Craig’s family to gain recognition as a successful artist in the Bay Area. Maurice’s parents immigrated to America from France, an important transition for his family of well-known French artists. Maurice worked in San Francisco producing ornamental cast stone. Maurice’s most notable works include casting sculptures by the well-known Benny Bufano, and restoring the Palace of Fine Arts.
Craig’s grandmother, Claudette Syme, is his greatest mentor and inspiration. She is an avid painter and encouraged Craig to pursue painting since childhood.
Craig’s mother, Lianne Thompson, is an active artist in the San Francisco Peninsula. She created He-Art, a collection of meaningful and colorful heart paintings. She currently works as an art consultant, and owns The Gallery, now located in Belmont, California.
Craig attributes his passion for painting to his family. He is dedicated to making a meaningful contribution to the Bay Area’s art community through Consumed Art, and welcomes you to his first solo art show.
Thank you, and we hope that you enjoy Consumed Art.
