The annual Jerry Day Festival is a musical celebration of the famous guitarist and San Francisco native, Jerry Garcia, of the Grateful Dead. The festival takes place in the Excelsior District, where Jerry spent his childhood, and constitutes one of the largest annual celebrations in the neighborhood. Renamed in August of 2005, the Jerry Garcia Amphitheater in McLaren Park serves as the perfect venue for musicians to perform on Jerry Day. The event, which began in 2002, continues to grow each year and functions to draw different communities of people together in a neighborhood that isn't generally used for citywide celebrations.
