Platanos serves authentic Latin cuisine in a warm and inviting, tropical setting. The menu includes dishes from the Yucatan Peninsula, Central and South America and the Caribbean, and highlights the fresh flavors and ingredients of these cuisines. The menu has been recently updated to feature mostly small plates so that diners may sample many different things during a visit, though house specialties are still available in entree size. Regular customers return again and again for Platanos' Gallo Pinto (Nicaraguan beans and rice), Honduran Tamales steamed in banana leaves, and the Yucatecan specialty of Cochinita Pibil (braised pork marinated with tomatoes, onions, sour orange juice and achiote). Of course the namesake platanos, or plantains, may be eaten as chips with guacamole, deep fried as tostones, or ripe and sweet with cilantro sour cream.
