Friends of the SFPL Donation Center

At Friends of the SFPL Donation Center, we recycle over 600,000 books each year, keeping them in the hands of readers and out of landfills, saving nearly 50 tons of paper and 250 tons of green house gas emissions.

The Donation Center accepts books Mon-Sat 10:00 a.m.- 2:00 p.m. In addition to books, we gladly accept donations of media and assorted printed material, including:

-Audio CDs, LPs, and cassettes
-DVDs, Blu-ray discs, and VHS tapes
-Computer software and console games
-Vintage posters, photos, artwork, postcards, travel brochures, maps, menus and other printed material
-Magazines (except National Geographic and Smithsonian)

We welcome your tax-deductible donation of all books except the following:

-Books that are damp or moldy
-General encyclopedias (World Book, Britannica, etc.)
-Legal statutes and casebooks
-National Geographic and Smithsonian magazines
