Siter will be giving a talk about his work on Saturday Feb. 28th at 4pm in the gallery.
Harry works with a chain saw and a few chisels to create the figures cut from bare tree trunks often measuring up to 9 feet in height. He carves until life is found. And so, personalities start to emerge and the bare tree trunk becomes “ The Janitor”, “ The Gardener”, or “Him”. With the characteristics of the wood in mind, Siter finalizes the concept of the sculpture. Whatever it is a boyish posture of a woman perched on high heels, or a body womanly shaped with man’s genitals, Siter is ready to meet the challenge. The bronze castings are treated with more fluidity in form and follow the developmental path they must take to be rendered, ultimately joining the two materials to create new forms. By blending the two dynamics, Siter discovers new layers and theories as the two worlds meet. Suddenly new directions in thought and feeling emerge and in turn, they create a new physique.
