Achy Obejas is a critically-acclaimed novelist, an award-winning journalist, a poet and a translator. Her most recent novel, Ruins, follows Usnavy, a beleaguered hero in Havana, Cuba during the “Special Period” in the 1990s after the Soviet Union’s collapse and the tightening of U.S. sanctions. Among many translation projects, her translation (into Spanish) of Junot Díaz’ The Brief Wondrous Life of Oscar Wao, La Breve y Maravillosa Vida de Óscar Wao was a finalist
