The Great Rehearsal: Jewish Identity in Russian Ballet

Thursday, Feb 16 7:00p
at Jewish Community Library, San Francisco, CA
Price: FREE
Age Suitability: None Specified

Russian ballet functioned as an important medium for social resistance among Jews in the former Soviet Union.

Central to this phenomenon is the tragic story of Leonid Jacobson (1904-1975), the leading Russian Jewish dance artist of the 20th century. Rare footage of Jacobson's company and work will be shown during the program.

Janice Ross is a professor in the drama department and director of the dance division at Stanford University. She is completing a book about Leonid Jacobson.
