Practice with Guan Yin
April 21, 2012 1 - 4 pm with Shosan Victoria Austin and Lucy Xiao City Center Dining room Meet the Bodhisattva of Compassion face to face. Perfect wisdom and universal compassion are the two faces of realization. In this afternoon workshop, we will learn traditional methods to generate the undivided heart and mind of compassion. We will explore the uninterrupted life of Guan Yin (Avalokitesvara Bodhisattva) through hearing, reflection and silence. The afternoon will include chanting, bowing, sutra copying, and meditation on the forms of Guan Yin. People of all physical abilities and levels of meditation experience are welcome. Please eat lightly and wear loose, comfortable clothing. Related Bio(s): Shosan Victoria Austin Shosan Victoria Austin began practicing both Zen and yoga in 1971. In the Soto Zen tradition, she is entrusted as a Dharma heir in the lineage of Shunryu Suzuki, an international priest of the Soto School, and a Dharma teacher at San Francisco Zen Center. She trained in the U.S., in India, and in Japan. In the Iyengar tradition, she is certified as an Intermediate teacher.
Lucy Xiao, L.Ac. Lucy Xiao, L.Ac., is a licensed acupuncturist and herbalist in both California and nationally, and a resident and ordained priest at San Francisco Zen Center. She is currently running a private practice of acupuncture and herbal medicine in San Francisco and pursuing a doctoral program in Oriental Medicine at the Five Branches University.
