Studio NPG and Producer Lua Hadar present P.R. Bootcamp, created in 2011 by director-journalist Mike Ward and Lua Hadar.
WHY Enroll? Eventually all artists should hire a publicist to get the word out about them. In the interim, as you're building your status as an artist, getting to know the basics of public relations & marketing will help you further your career. Not every event is big enough to merit the expense of a publicist, but you will be required to pull in audience at all of them nonetheless. A publicist has a brief interaction with you, and in order for them to best represent and market you, it's imperative that you provide them with concise, high-quality, clear information. "Know thyself" becomes more than a maxim, it's how you will maximize your results with a publicist or as your own representative.
Classes are interactive. We ask you to pre-register to maximize the best class size for your learning,
P.R. Bootcamp 2011-2012 Session Description:
SUN, Nov. 20 Working with the Media
Reviewer Chad Jones
12:30-3:30pm - single class $55
(includes entrance to NYC @ NPG music event, following at 4pm)
It's an artistic onslaught out there. Everyone's got a show, an exhibit, a concert, a fundraiser. So how do you make sure the right people at the right media outlets not only find out about your event but actively want to cover it? We'll look at the whole picture to see how you can wrangle your resources, whether they're abundant or minimal, to your greatest advantage. How easy are you making it for the media at large -- print, broadcast, online -- to find you? Do you have press releases and photos posted and readily available on a website? Once you've perfected your press release, how do you follow up? When do you think about hiring a publicist? And how do you optimize your media coverage to make sure everybody and her sister knows about it? With a solid pitch and a sheen of professionalism to separate you from the pack, you can work with the media and get the media to want to work with you. Chad Jones has been covering the SF Bay area since 1992, and he knows his business.
