Two works of great intensity, both in music and text, give listeners reason to look forward with hope. Schoenberg’s brief but powerful, A Survivor from Warsaw recounts a tale of uncommon courage and faith in the face of the ultimate tragedy. In Beethoven’s Ninth Symphony, hope is presented as the soloists and chorus in the final movement burst forth with Schiller’s famous Ode to Joy, an optimistic expression of unity and love for all humanity.
Inside Music, an informative talk free to ticketholders, begins one hour prior to concerts.
