The San Francisco Symphony Presents American Orchestras
Commissioned in 2005 for the 40th anniversary of the Philadelphia Orchestra’s summer home in Saratoga, New York, Iranian composer Behzad Ranjbaran's Saratoga is a work filled with wonderful lush melodies that transports the listener to ancient Persia while paying homage to the sounds of European symphonic tradition. Also on the program is Rachmaninoff’s final composition, the extraordinary Symphonic Dances, originally dedicated to and premiered by the Orchestra, and Scriabin’s colorful and creative single-movement tone poem.
