The San Francisco Symphony Presents American Orchestras
Music Director Alan Gilbert, the first native New Yorker to lead the New York Philharmonic, conducts this storied ensemble in a program of color masterpieces. Concertmaster Glenn Dicterow performs Bartók’s Violin Concerto No. 1, a work that emerged as a result of Bartok’s great love for a violinist of the time. Gilbert and the Philharmonic also perform two wildly popular works of vivid impressionism and evocative imagery, Debussy’s richly expressive La Mer and Ravel’s stunning La Valse.
