In a week of semi-staged concerts in May 2012, Michael Tilson Thomas and the Orchestra celebrate the musical roots and heritage of San Francisco in Barbary Coast and Beyond: Music from the Gold Rush to the Panama-Pacific Exposition, with music written from the mid-1800s through the Orchestra’s founding in 1911 and its formative years. With MTT as curator, conductor, and host, soprano Laura Claycomb and pianist Anton Nel join the Orchestra as they use music, costumes, evocative lighting, and imagery to journey through this transformative era in San Francisco history. Full program details for Barbary Coast and Beyond will be announced at a later date.
