he vibrant violinist Arabella Steinbacher returns to the SFS, performing Tchaikovsky’s fiery and firework-filled Violin Concerto under the baton of the esteemed Charles Dutoit. Bartók’s brilliant Concerto for Orchestra is written not for a particular solo instrument but treats the entire orchestra as soloists. The Concerto for Orchestra has been a staple of the orchestral repertoire since its premiere in 1944, and Dutoit’s interpretation of it has been called “electrifying” and “impeccable” (Gramophone).
Inside Music, an informative talk free to ticketholders, begins one hour prior to rehearsal and concerts.
