Conductor Laureate Herbert Blomstedt, who makes music “sparkle and sing,” (San Francisco Chronicle) returns to conduct the SFS, as always charming listeners with his musical insights and eloquent sense of music-making. He leads the thoughtful and melodious Fifth Symphony of Tchaikovsky, with its unifying “fate” motive. Blomstedt is joined in the program by San Francisco’s own Garrick Ohlsson for one of Mozart’s most highly regarded piano concertos with its contrasting movements of joy and sorrow.
