The San Francisco Symphony Presents American Orchestras
The American Orchestra Series concludes with performances by the award-winning Philadelphia Orchestra led by Chief Conductor Charles Dutoit. Joining the Orchestra is pianist Louis Lortie, performing Ravel’s hauntingly beautiful and technically virtuosic Piano Concerto for the Left Hand. The program also features one of Hindemith’s most popular pieces, Symphonic Metamorphosis, which takes themes from the early-Romantic German composer Carl Maria von Weber and reworks them in a more modern language, and Shostakovich’s uplifting Fifth Symphony.
