The San Francisco Symphony Presents American Orchestras
With residencies from Miami to Vienna, the Cleveland Orchestra, under Music Director Franz Welser-Möst, performs at Davies Symphony Hall for the first time since 2005. Kaija Saariaho’s Orion, commissioned by the Cleveland Orchestra in 2002, is a stunning work for large orchestra that is awash with shimmering and evocative sounds. This work is wonderfully contrasted with Mendelssohn’s inspired Scottish Symphony, and Shostakovich’s own symphonic masterpiece of spring, joy, and youth, his Sixth Symphony.
