Join us for an electrifying afternoon of lecture/demonstration as West Oakland-based artist, activist, cultural historian and recently appointed City of Oakland Cultural Affairs Commissioner Marcel Diallo reads, discusses and performs excerpts from his first installment of a series of forthcoming chapter books exploring what he calls Black New World philosophies. This afternoon's discussion will center around the basic tenants of post-colonial Black New World thought that is currently reshaping the cultural landscape of the planet. This first installment is called Sanctified Gumbo. Marcel Diallo will be accompanied by longtime Black Dot Artists Collective percussionist Kele Nitoto for the demonstrative segment of the afternoon.
