Public Works Services (PWS; http://www.redwoodcity.org/publicworks/) is one of ten operating departments within the Charter City of Redwood City, California. It serves a city population of approximately 76,000 and provides water services to an additional 1,600 households in the unincorporated Emerald Hills area.

Working in partnership with our citizens, the 83 PWS professionals are dedicated to providing high quality services with integrity, creativity, and excellence.
The department is comprised of four operating divisions:

* Water Utility Services: Manages operations and maintains the city’s water supply and distribution system, providing high quality water at the lowest possible cost.
* Wastewater Management Services: Maintains, operates and repairs the sewer and storm drainage systems to provide a safe and clean environment for the community.
* Right-Of-Way Maintenance: Maintains the streets, sidewalks, trees, traffic signs and traffic signals to promote safe and effective thoroughfares, while enhancing the beauty of the community.
* Municipal Service Center and Fleet Management: Services and maintains city vehicles and equipment and manages purchasing and replacement.

The PWS staff promotes a number of programs that enhance services and further the development of a great community, such as the San Mateo County Stormwater Pollution Prevention Program (STOPPP),Water Conservation Program and Tree Preservation Program.

In addition, PWS personnel support the City Council Utilities Committee and the Redwood City Pride & Beautification Committee, as well as a number of organizations that add value to the services provided to Redwood City citizens. Some of these include:

* Bay Area Water Supply and Conservation Agency (BAWSCA)
* Northern California Chapter of the Water Reuse Association
* International Society of Arboriculture
* National Arbor Day Foundation

PWS is accountable for long-range planning and management of the City’s Water and Sewer enterprise funds and for ensuring that the systems are replaced in a timely and effective manner.

The Department of Public Works Services is dedicated to working with Redwood City citizens to build a community that is a great place to live and work.
