. On June 5th 2009, Lireille-Gallery of Contemporary Jewelry & Art will hold a fundraiser and reception for California State University East Bay’s Advanced Sculpture Students from 5:30pm to 8:30pm at 3980 Piedmont Ave, Oakland CA. The gallery will display the students works from June 5th to July 15th and the work presented will feature established and new local sculptors: Monica Schmid from Switzerland, Anna Vendt from Richmond CA, Brandon Johnson from Pacifica CA, and Catharyne Dang along with Robert Alvarado from Oakland CA. Their work is an eclectic mix of metal, ceramic, and wood sculptures with a variety of styles ranging from: three-dimensional line drawings to whimsical pieces, abstraction to literal figurative sculptures, a diverse array of art styles will be showcased.

In addition, John Poole, ssculpture professor at CSU East Bay will also curate a selection of pieces from the beginner students in his class. “At Cal State East Bay the students enrolled in sculpture courses are encouraged to explore individual ideas within figurative, abstract and conceptual contexts, while utilizing both traditional and non-traditional materials and processes. The result has been an exciting display of eclectic interests and talents”, quotes Mr. Poole.

Pioneers in Art: A Student Exhibition will serve as a fundraiser for CSU East Bay’s sculpture department. From June 5th until the show closes on July 15th 20% of the proceeds from the sale of student work will be donated to the sculpture department’s trust fund and will be used to repair tools and equipment. The students hope to replenish the dwindling funds.

Lireille – Gallery of Contemporary Jewelry and Art dedicated to original contemporary studio jewelry and art, is located at 3980 Piedmont Avenue in Oakland. The gallery is open 7 days a week Mon-Thu & Sat 10am-7pm, Friday 10am-8pm and Sun 11am-5pm.
