Tempered Fragility by Reem Rahim
(May 1-May 31, 2009)
Opening Reception: Friday, May 1, 2009, 7-10pm
Afternoon Tea: Sunday, May 17, 3-5pm
Reem Rahim's ballerina paintings stem from studies on Degas and a childhood accident that almost took her legs. Her use of sewing patters brings about a sense of impermanence and fragility which allows the viewer to question underlying assumptions and projections which overtake a sense of openness. Rahim is also one of the founders of Oakland's own Numi Organic Tea, and her artwork can be seen on the tea boxes.
