Anza-Borrego lies within the Colorado Desert of Southern California, which in turn comprises the western-most extension of the larger Sonoran Desert. Of the four U.S. deserts, the Sonoran is by far the most botanically diverse, and is home to a large number of medicinal, edible, and other such useful plants.
