Sand Casting DEMO
With Kate Ellen
Sand casting is an ancient metalworking technique that uses sand to create a mold that molten metal is poured into, creating a replica. It is a cheap, dirty, quick and thrilling way to make a copy of an object that leaves an interesting texture and unique feel.
In the demo, Kate Ellen will be take small objects from participants and create a mold, and then make sterling silver replica of the object on the spot.
To participate, please reserve a ticket and bring with you:
1. A pair of safety glasses
2. A few small trinkets (no bigger than the size of a quarter)
This is a free event, $10 suggested donation. If your trinket is cast, you may have the option to buy it at the end of the demonstration.
You can view a little bit of the sandcasting process in the Popuphood video by Eva Kolenko, it features a small segment about Kate Ellen's sand casting.
