OPTIONS RECOVERY CENTER FUNDRAISER TO CELEBRATE
NATIONAL RECOVERY MONTH
In celebration of National Recovery Month, Options Recovery Center presents an evening of music, comedy and spoken word on Friday, September 24, 7-10 pm, at the Options Recovery Services Auditorium located in the Veterans Memorial Building, 1931 Center Street (at MLK), Berkeley. Featured artists include:
Kevin Griffin, Buddhist author, teacher, and innovator in the field of addiction treatment. He is the author of A Burning Desire, a book which helps those in recovery who struggle with the concept of a “Higher Power.” His book shows how the Dharma, the teachings of the Buddha, can be understood as a higher power.
Tom Catton, whose story appears in a twelve-step fellowship text with more than seven million copies in circulation around the world. He is the author of The Mindful Addict, a memoir which details Catton’s experiences in the 60s and his eventual move away from drugs and towards the practice of meditation and introspection.
Bucky Sinister, “alternative” comedian, presents self-deprecating view of addiction and recovery and helps his audiences understand the humor inherent in both.
Michael Meehan, stand-up comic. Michael has been doing stand-up comedy for over 25 years, both as a solo act and with his two brothers, performing as the Meehan Brothers. His television appearances include “Last Comic Standing” and “The Late Show” with Craig Ferguson.
The mission of Options Recovery Services, established in 1996, is to break the cycle of addiction that causes crime, homelessness and broken families.
