Bringing a deliciously sensible touch of Europe to Berkeley, Alice Waters’ Café Fanny is situated on a busy street corner between Acme Bread Co. and Kermit Lynch Wine Merchant, serving bread from one and wine from the other.
Café Fanny is a place where people in a hurry can mix with those who wish to linger, eat simply prepared yet superb food. Café au lait and toast in the morning, fresh salads, sandwiches, and a glass of wine in the afternoon. It is a casual stand-up food bar where one can enjoy a peaceful moment to nourish the body as well as the spirit.
Café Fanny has its own style--understated and accommodating. An immense vaulted skylight brightens the cafe on one end, while the view is framed by tall copper-edged windows. Handmade tiles cover the floor, and the zinc bar is lined with purpleheart wood and just long enough to hold about 20 people.
