Although glacial ice is the purest naturally occurring solid on Earth, it contains tiny bacterial cells transported by winds from throughout the world. These bacteria provide an opportunity to study microbial evolution over about 100 million generations.
February's Science@Cal lecture will be given by UC Berkeley Physics Professor Buford Price. He has served as Dean of Physical Sciences and co-founder of a massive neutrino observatory at the South Pole and will share his research on microbes.
