Bay Area musician Derek Smith Jazz Trio has cultivated a unique sound that combines the steel pan & vibraphone with the infectious rhythms of Latin Jazz. He uses the instrumentation to interpret the music of Latin Jazz masters, such as Tito Puente, Cal Tjader, Antonio Carlos Jobim, and Mongo Santamaria. The influences of these legendary musicians are also echoed in Smith’s original compositions, along with the street music of Trinidad, Cuba & Puerto Rico.
