Frank Kane from Paris, France will be in San Francisco to lead two individual evening workshops. These will involve learning some Georgian songs that are easy enough to grasp in the course of an evening and then using them as a laboratory for vocal exploration, accompanied by exercises with simpler sounds and vibration. The idea is not to learn as many songs as possible but rather to look at the "how" of individual and group singing in the context of this rich oral tradition polyphony. This will certainly be of interest to lovers of Georgian folk songs, but also to anyone involved in group singing of any repertoire who would like to find out more about the vibrational resources of the voice that are often ignored in singing.
Different material will be covered each evening, so feel free to come to one or the other or both.
Frank Kane has been studying, singing and teaching Georgian songs for almost 30 years. He founded the Kartuli Ensemble in the US and the Marani and Irinola Ensembles in France. He now travels internationally to offer his work on the voice drawing on the Georgian tradition and techniques focusing on vibration.
